Press Information for "Day de Dada Performance Art Festival"

* The Staten Island "Day de Dada" performance art group has been creating original Dada inspired performance events since 2002 as part of the annual "Day de Dada Performance Art Festival"

* The artists of "Day de Dada" use their art to protest against conservative thought using absurdities and non sequiturs to create artworks and performances.

* Besides the core group of "Day de Dada" artists, each year other performers and audience members join in to create the spontaneous, interactive, experimental shows, including artists from Staten Island, the metropolitan New York area, France and Italy and Staten Island students from PS 16 and Curtis High School.

* Past performances have included poetry, word play, superhero actions, an epic of the life of Marco Polo, film and video, ongoing knitting projects, political and audience interactive pieces.

* Venues for the festival have included Snug Harbor Cultural Center, Staten Island Museum, the Staten Island Waterfront, Vlepo Gallery, Tattfoo, Everything Goes Cafe, Muddy Cup, NYC Arts Cypher, PS 16, Film Anthology, Le Petit Versailles and Figment Festival on Governor's Island.

* Artists who have participated include DB Lampman, Mary Campbell, Alan Moore, the Art Nurses, the Mighty Men of Dada, Reuben Sandwich, Tamara Wyndham, Jim Jeffers, A.D. Coleman, Larry Schwabacher, Mark Semanchik, Lydia Grey, JJ Hayes, Marguerite Rivas, Wil Wynn, Helen Levin, John Bostrom, Joan Moore, Gary Moore, Ben Jacobs, Bill Woods, and Hey Viv!.

*The Festival has received three grants from the Council on the Arts and Humanities for Staten Island (COAHSI), with public funding from the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs.
